Alan Hamel, the 88-year-old widower of actress Suzanne Somers, has found love again with Joanna Cassidy, his late wife’s former co-star. Hamel confirmed the relationship in an exclusive interview, saying, “I don’t know where this relationship is going.”
The couple was recently photographed together enjoying lunch at a restaurant in Malibu, California. Hamel and Cassidy’s connection spans over 45 years, dating back to when Cassidy appeared as a guest on “The Alan Hamel Show” in Canada during the 1970s.
“Joanna was a great guest and we liked each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect,” Hamel explained. “Both of us were married at the time.”
In 1985, Cassidy and Sommers starred together in the miniseries “Hollywood Wives,” based on a novel by Jackie Collins. Hamel and Cassidy’s paths crossed again during this time, and they remained cordial.
Hamel’s son, from a previous marriage, played a role in reconnecting the pair.
Love blossoms for Hamel, Cassidy
Unaware of their prior acquaintance, he met Cassidy at a screening and suggested that she and Hamel should meet.
Somers, known for her roles in “Three’s Company” and “Step by Step,” passed away in 2023 at the age of 76. Before her death, she had encouraged Hamel to live his life fully. Suzanne told me when we knew the end was near not to ‘mope around’ and to live my life,” Hamel shared.
Hamel praised Cassidy, best known for her roles in “Blade Runner,” “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” and “Six Feet Under,” for her accomplishments and dedication as an actress and mother. Reflecting on his late wife, Hamel said, “Aside from all her accomplishments, she was an amazing wife and an amazing mother as well. She’s the one who pulled our family together.”
As Hamel embarks on this new chapter with Cassidy, he appears to be honoring Somers’ wishes by finding joy and companionship once again.
