Ben Affleck and director Gavin O’Connor are in talks about a potential third film in “The Accountant” series. O’Connor revealed he has been texting with actress Anna Kendrick, who played Dana in the original 2016 movie, about her possible return. “She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want,” O’Connor shared during a joint interview with Affleck.
The director mentioned ongoing conversations with Kendrick regarding her involvement in the next installment. Affleck expressed his interest in continuing the series, stating he is “just waiting for another great script.” He plans to discuss the future project with screenwriter Bill Dubuque and O’Connor. One idea O’Connor is excited about is further exploring the romantic storyline between Affleck’s character Christian Wolff and Kendrick’s Dana.
Creating the third film
“Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves,” he said. Affleck jokingly added, “I hope Kendrick still likes us,” to which O’Connor confirmed her enthusiasm for the project through their text exchanges.
The second film focused more on Christian’s relationship with his brother Braxton, played by Jon Bernthal. O’Connor explained Kendrick’s absence, saying, “She was never intended to be in it. It was always about bringing the brothers together so they can try to fix things with each other.”
O’Connor assured fans that the series, intended to be a trilogy, will not take another nine years to complete the third installment.
“The Accountant 2” is currently playing in theaters, featuring a memorable scene where Affleck’s character line dances in a country western bar, showcasing his mathematical mind in a social setting.
