Daredevil: born again premieres with shocking twist

The long-awaited Daredevil: Born Again series premiered on Disney+ with a shocking twist.

In the opening minutes, Matt Murdock, Karen Page, and Foggy Nelson reunite at their law firm before heading to Josie’s Bar. Foggy steps out to take a call from a witness he is protecting.

Matt, sensing danger, rushes off as Daredevil to Foggy’s apartment. But it’s a trap. Daredevil races back to Josie’s, but he’s too late.

Bullseye, Daredevil’s nemesis from Season 3, emerges and shoots Foggy in the chest. Karen stays with Foggy as Daredevil chases down the shooter. They fight on the rooftop before Daredevil throws Bullseye off, leaving him near death.

Tragically, Foggy dies from his wounds. One year later, Matt quit being Daredevil and joined a new law firm. At Bullseye’s sentencing, Karen reveals she moved to San Francisco after Foggy’s death.

Matt tried to reach out, but she refused.

“I refuse to believe that a tragedy had to destroy everything,” Matt says.

“But it did,” Karen replies. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk seeks to become mayor while his wife secretly runs his criminal empire. Fisk claims he found “a new Zen” and wants to help the city.

Matt warns him to “stay in his lane.” Fisk vows “consequences” for costumed vigilantes once he’s mayor. The show also introduces Matt’s potential new love interest, a therapist named Heather. According to the show’s creators, killing off Foggy was always the plan, even before the production changes in 2023.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane felt it needed to happen on screen to impact Matt’s life majorly. Elden Henson, who played Foggy, was surprised and saddened by the news but understood the creative decision. For Charlie Cox, losing Foggy, whom he calls “the heartbeat of the MCU,” was “a real tough pill to swallow.”

Foggy’s tragic demise shakes everything

The directors aimed to underscore the gravity of Foggy’s death with an intense Daredevil/Bullseye fight scene.

Making it a signature one-take sequence and positioning it right before Foggy’s final moments served as a “punctuation mark” and “the beginning of his eulogy.”

Daredevil: Born Again’s two-part premiere is now streaming on Disney+. Viewers can expect a faithful yet fresh take on the iconic hero, filled with intense action, personal drama, and the looming threat of Kingpin’s mayoral ambitions. While the show retreads some familiar ground, its new twists make for a compelling return to Hell’s Kitchen.
