Disney fans have reason to celebrate as Walt Disney World announced plans for a potential new theme park in Florida. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District released a report outlining where Disney could expand over the next 20 years. The plans include a possible fifth major park, alongside two smaller parks that may be water attractions.
The new park is projected to be on a scale comparable to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney has allocated up to 500 acres for this expansion, which would make it the company’s first new park in Florida since Animal Kingdom opened in 1998. The report also indicates land reserved for commercial, conservation, entertainment, and hotel uses.
New park expansion in Florida
This exciting news comes after some backlash from Disney enthusiasts regarding the announcement that Tom Sawyer Island in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland will be replaced by a new Lightning McQueen-themed area. The island and the Liberty Square Riverboat ride will have their final day of operation on July 6, 2025, to make way for Cars Land.
Many park-goers expressed disappointment on social media. One user stated, “This is an abomination and a real disservice to all those who booked summer trips hoping to enjoy all this one more time.”
Despite mixed reactions, the prospect of a new park brings anticipation for fresh experiences at the renowned Orlando resort. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s report is part of the Comprehensive Plan 2045, which outlines potential development areas and projects for Walt Disney World over the next two decades.
While there are no confirmed plans for a fifth Disney park in Orlando at this time, the company is currently working on significant projects within its existing parks. These include expansions with new lands themed to “Cars,” Disney villains, “Encanto,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Monsters Inc.”
As Disney continues to develop its properties, fans eagerly await more details about the potential new park and the exciting future of Walt Disney World in Florida.
