At least six cruise ships are currently stranded at sea, denied entry to ports, leaving them anchored off the coasts. Some ships trying to dock have confirmed coronavirus cases on board, but others do not. Here are the six ships that are currently stranded and other information you need to know about cruise travel at this time.

MS Braemar

MS Braemar (pictured) is currently in the Bahamas, heading towards Cuba with five confirmed cases of Coronavirus onboard. The ship was refused several ports of entry in the Caribbean and is now headed to Cuba after days of frantically searching for a place to dock. Cuba has said it will receive the ship out of “humanitarian concerns.”

The Norwegian Jewel

The Norwegian Jewel is currently stranded in the South Pacific with no confirmed cases on board. The ship is still searching for a port in the Pacific Ocean after being denied permission to dock at two previously scheduled ports. After refueling in American Samoa, the ship is now headed for Hawaii.

Pacific Princess

Pacific Princess is currently at sea in the Indian Ocean, heading towards Fremantle, Australia. No one on board has tested positive for the virus, but as ports begin to shut down the ship has been denied entry in Bali, Singapore, Phuket, the Seychelles and Sri Lanka so far. Their situation remains in flux.

Costa Luminosa

Costa Luminosa is currently en route to Marseille. Two guests on board, one German and one Danish, tested positive for coronavirus, and one of those patients has died. There are 200 Americans on the ship.

Golden Princess

Golden Princess is currently anchored off New Zealand. Three passengers have been quarantined, but so far no one has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The passengers have not been allowed to disembark the ship.

Silver Shadow

Silver Shadow currently docked in Brazil with passengers in isolation. A Canadian passenger tested positive for coronavirus Saturday, according to Brazil’s state news agency. Two passengers have disembarked and the other 609 passengers have been in isolation since Thursday.

According to the State Department website, “U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship. The CDC notes increased risk of infection of COVID-19 in a cruise ship environment.”

State Department officials went on to say, “While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities.”

The CDC Director issued a No Sail Order for cruise ships effective March 14, 2020, so it looks like cruise ship travel will not be an option in the foreseeable future. To rebook or cancel a trip please contact your point of purchase.
