There are literally hundreds of ways to make a burger. It’s all down to personal preference, but there’s one thing most of us can agree we don’t like: a dry patty. You can add any flavor, herb or spice you like, but dry meat is simply unappetizing.

Graham Elliot, former judge on MasterChef, revealed a fool-proof way to make sure every burger is juicy and sizzling: put an ice-cube in it.

Sounds a little crazy, but throwing an ice cube into a thick patty will keep it from drying out. He also advises that when making the burger you stick to ground meat only. In an interview with Fox, Elliot explained, “People always end up doing the same mixture for a burger as they do with meatloaf or a meatball; they put all the pepper and onion in it. You don’t want to do that, you want it to be just straight meat.”

To use the ice cube trick when you next break out the grill, here’s Elliot’s advice: “Make your patties, then put your little ice cube in there and then when you grill it, it keeps it moist and keeps it from getting dried out.” To try out his favorite burger recipe take a look here.
