Ione Skye opens up about her personal life in her new memoir, “Say Everything.” The actress, known for her roles in ’80s films like “River’s Edge” and “Say Anything,” shares intimate details about her relationships and experiences. In the book, Skye reveals that she cheated on her ex-husband, Beastie Boys rapper Adam Horovitz, with a woman named Mai Lei. She feels an instant connection with Lei, saying, “Within minutes, I could tell we’d get together, and it would be different with her.”
Skye admits that the affair with Lei was “the true beginning of the end” of her marriage to Horovitz.
She recalls when Horovitz caught her and Lei together in their swimming pool, describing it as feeling like she had “just witnessed a car crash.”
The actress also shares that she had a relationship with her “Say Anything” co-star John Cusack years after filming the movie. Cusack reportedly texted Skye after reading about their encounter in her book, saying, “You made the experience sound so meh! It wasn’t ‘meh’ for me.”
Skye tells People magazine that she felt bad about Cusack’s reaction but ultimately stood by her story. “I’m telling a story, and it was more about how all of our chemistry was in our working together and stimulating each other’s minds, not sleeping together!”
The memoir also delves into Skye’s other relationships, including her tumultuous marriage to Horovitz and her dating of Anthony Kiedis at age 16.
Confessions and revelations in memoir
Skye says she discovered her bisexuality during her marriage and entered into a series of affairs.
Despite the book’s personal nature, Skye says her current husband, Ben Lee, has been supportive. “My husband, yeah, he knew everything,” she says. I mean, he’s kind of amazing.
I don’t think anything ruffled his feathers.”
Skye hopes readers will enjoy her story and the candid look at her life and career. “It’s almost like motherhood, in that you know it’s going to be a huge experience, but you don’t know how big until you get there,” she says of writing the memoir.
