Jonathan Joss, the actor known for voicing John Redcorn on “King of the Hill,” was shot and killed by a neighbor in San Antonio. The 59-year-old actor also appeared in “Parks and Recreation,” “Ray Donovan,” and “Tulsa King.”
The San Antonio Police Department said the neighbor, 56-year-old Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with murder. The police did not say what led to the dispute.
Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said the shooting was a hate crime. He claimed the couple had been harassed repeatedly because they were gay. Kern de Gonzales said they had returned to a property where Joss’s home had burned down earlier this year when the shooting happened.
“He started yelling violent, homophobic slurs at us,” Kern de Gonzales wrote. “He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.”
Kern de Gonzales said they had reported the harassment to the authorities several times in the past, but it had continued. Chris Pratt, who co-starred with Joss in “Parks and Recreation” and “The Magnificent Seven,” reacted to the news on Instagram. “Damn. RIP Jonathan. Always such a kind dude,” Pratt wrote. “Sad to see. Prayers up. Hug your loved ones.”
Actor remembered for kind spirit
Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson on “Parks and Recreation,” said the cast was “heartbroken” over Joss’s death. “Jonathan was such a sweet guy, and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy,” Offerman said.
The San Antonio Police Department said the investigation into Joss’s death is ongoing. They stated there is currently no evidence to indicate the murder was related to Joss’s sexual orientation.
