Madonna and Elton John reunite on SNL

Madonna and Elton John have ended their decades-long feud. The two music legends reconciled at a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) episode. Sir Elton performed songs from his new album with Brandi Carlile on the show.

After his performance, Madonna went backstage to “confront” him. In an Instagram post, Madonna shared details of their reconciliation. “The first thing out of his mouth was ‘forgive me,’ and the wall between us fell down,” she wrote.

The feud between Madonna and Sir Elton dates back to 2004. During her live performances, Sir Elton, 78, has repeatedly accused Madonna of lip-syncing. At the Q Awards in 2004, when Madonna was nominated for Best Live Act, Sir Elton questioned, “Since when has lip-syncing been live?” He declared, “Anyone who lip-syncs in public on stage when you pay £75 to see them should be shot.”

The tension flared up again in 2012.

Sir Elton claimed Madonna didn’t stand a “chance” of beating him for the Golden Globe for Best Original Song that year. Ironically, Madonna won the award for her song “Masterpiece.” She hoped Sir Elton would “speak to me for the next couple of years.”

In her Instagram post about their reconciliation, Madonna reminisced about being an avid admirer of Sir Elton since her teenage years.

Seeing him perform when I was in high school changed the course of my life,” she wrote. She noted that it hurt to see someone she admired publicly express dislike towards her as an artist. However, their weekend reconciliation may open the door to a musical partnership.

Madonna hinted at this possibility, stating that Sir Elton had written a song for her and expressed interest in collaborating. Sir Elton responded by thanking Madonna for forgiving him. He acknowledged that he wasn’t proud of his past comments about her.

He praised Madonna for her “ground-breaking work… paving the way for an entire generation of female artists to succeed and be true to themselves.”

“I’m increasingly distressed by all the divisiveness in our world at the moment,” Sir Elton commented on Madonna’s post. By pulling together, I’m hopeful we can make great things happen for those who need support and have a lot of fun doing it.

After years of public disputes, Madonna and Sir Elton John’s rekindled friendship is an inspiring example of reconciliation and unity.
