Attention: Taxpayers who qualify for CARES Act stimulus payments for their children but who haven’t received a check yet. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is reopening the registration period for beneficiaries who didn’t receive their additional $500 per child stimulus payment earlier this year.
According to the IRS website, if you used the IRS’s Non-Filers tool before May 17 and claimed at least one qualifying child, the IRS did not send you $500 per qualifying child as promised. Taxpayers can use the Non-Filers tool on the IRS website to apply for the $500 stimulus payment owed.

Who can apply? Those eligible are taxpayers with qualifying children who receive: Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement benefits or Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefits and did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019. If you qualify, the application will be open from Aug. 15 through Sept. 30, and checks are expected to be issued in mid-October.
Low income Americans that don’t require filing taxes
You may also still be eligible to receive a stimulus check if you are a non-filer with low income—$12,200 annually for singles and $24,400 for married couples. If this applies to you, you should also use the Non-Filers’ tool. The deadline to apply is Oct. 15 to receive your $1,200 stimulus payment this year.
Anyone who misses the Oct. 15 deadline will need to wait until next year and claim the stimulus amount as a credit on their 2020 federal income tax return.

If you have already used the Non-Filer tool after May 5, there is no additional action needed to receive the payment. If you haven’t done so yet, the IRS recommends submitting an application to receive the additional payment.
