Moxley triumphs in Philadelphia AEW Dynasty

On Sunday night, Jon Moxley retained his AEW World Championship against Swerve Strickland in a chaotic main event at AEW Dynasty 2025 in Philadelphia.

The match began as a technical contest but quickly became mayhem as various wrestlers got involved, including Marina Shafir, Prince Nana, Hangman Adam Page, The Death Riders, Samoa Joe, and Katsuyori Shibata. The turning point came when The Young Bucks made a surprise return, delivering a BTE Trigger to Strickland, allowing Moxley to secure the victory.

Fans had mixed reactions to Moxley’s extended title reign.

Earlier in the night, AEW International Champion Kenny Omega stole the show in a triple-threat match against “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Ricochet. The bout ended with a tease of a potential future rivalry between Omega and Kazuchika Okada.

Several title changes occurred throughout the event.

Daniel Garcia lost his TNT Championship to Adam Cole, while Bandido defeated Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship, keeping his mask in the process.

The Philadelphia crowd was highly engaged throughout the night, creating a lively atmosphere despite some displeasure with the main event outcome. Kenny Omega was named the MVP of the night for his outstanding performance, especially considering his age. Despite her loss to Mercedes Mone, Julia Hart was recognized as the uncrowned gem of the night, showing great potential at just 23 years old.

The night’s match went to the triple threat between Omega, Bailey, and Ricochet, which showcased perfect synergy among the three competitors. The best spot of the night was The Young Bucks’ BTE Trigger on Swerve Strickland, which proved controversial but decisive.

Other notable results include Toni Storm retaining her AEW Women’s World Championship against Megan Bayne, The Death Riders defending their AEW World Trios Championship against Rated FTR, and The Hurt Syndicate keeping their AEW World Tag Team Championship against Big Bill and Bryan Keith.

AEW Dynasty 2025 delivered a night of high-energy wrestling and significant storyline developments, solidifying AEW’s presence as a major force in the wrestling world. The event received a crown score of 8/10.
