Queen Camilla remains neutral in family feud

Queen Camilla is staying out of the ongoing rift between King Charles III and his son, Prince Harry, according to royal experts. Christopher Andersen, author of “The King,” shared insights into how Harry’s tell-all memoir, “Spare,” continues to impact his relationship with his father and brother, Prince William. Sources reveal that the 77-year-old Queen Camilla has adopted a hands-off approach to the feud.

“Camilla stays out of it,” a source said. Prince William remains distant from Harry, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Despite keeping her distance publicly, Camilla is known to provide private support to King Charles.

“Their relationship is one of mutual reliance and comfort,” said royal expert Fordwich. Camilla’s presence has reportedly reassured King Charles as he faces both personal health challenges and the emotional toll of the publicized family rift. Some royal observers believe that King Charles, now 76, should make the first move towards reconciliation with Prince Harry.

However, there is hesitation, with many senior royals reportedly mistrusting Harry after his public criticisms of the family. Harry briefly attended his father’s coronation in 2023 but has made infrequent visits to the UK since stepping back as a senior member of the royal family. His memoir, “Spare,” which included several embarrassing revelations about the House of Windsor, only worsened family tensions.

Camilla’s quiet support for Charles

Queen Camilla has chosen not to intervene or take sides, remaining above the fray. This strategy of distance has been received as both dignified and supportive of the monarchy, though it does little to heal the ongoing divide.

Harry’s relationship with Camilla has always been a complex one. He accused her of leaking private conversations to the media to improve her own reputation, calling her “dangerous” due to her connections within the British press. These allegations were particularly sensitive given Camilla’s role in the breakdown of Charles’ marriage to Princess Diana, Harry’s mother.

Diana once famously remarked, “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

While initially shunned by the public, Camilla has earned respect through her charitable activities and efforts to modernize the monarchy alongside King Charles. Harry mentioned in his book that he had complex feelings about gaining a stepmother but ultimately wanted his father to be happy. The publication of “Spare” and Harry’s subsequent interviews have only deepened the rift.

He has expressed a desire for reconciliation but admitted his father refuses to speak to him. Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner commented that Harry’s remarks about Camilla were a significant blow to King Charles. “It is well known that King Charles can become very upset and hot under the collar,” Turner noted.

“Certainly, Charles is upset about the remarks made about Camilla. She has used the code of silence on the subject, similar to her own experiences while there were three in the marriage, as stated by Princess Diana.”

The rift between King Charles and Prince Harry remains unresolved, with Queen Camilla choosing to focus on her role as a supportive spouse rather than a mediator in the family feud.
