The Colombian singer Shakira has canceled her sixth concert of her world tour due to ongoing production issues. The latest cancellation was for her scheduled performance this weekend at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
The cancellation follows Thursday’s show in Boston at Fenway Park, which was also called off because of stage safety concerns. Live Nation, the event organizer, canceled the show when they identified that “structural elements were not up to standard.”
Capital Pride Alliance, the organization behind the D.C. event, expressed disappointment in a social media post.
They stated, “Like Shakira’s fans and our friends and family who have traveled from around the world to join us in DC this weekend, we are deeply disappointed that unforeseen circumstances have forced the cancellation of both this week’s concert in Boston and Saturday’s concert at Nationals Park.”
The organization further explained that “complications with the previous show in Boston” prevented Shakira’s full tour production from being transported to D.C. in time for her scheduled performance. “Despite every effort to make it happen, it is not possible to move forward as planned,” read a statement given to ticket holders. Shakira also addressed her followers on Instagram, writing, “Nothing more painful for an artist than having to cancel two sold-out stadium shows like Boston and DC for reasons beyond one’s control.
Thank you for being there in the good times and the not so good.”
The cancellations follow a series of disruptions in Shakira’s “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” world tour.
Shakira’s tour faces multiple setbacks
Earlier this year, she canceled a concert in Lima, Peru, due to hospitalization, and a show in Colombia after the stage suffered damage during assembly.
Similar stage safety issues led to the cancellation of performances in Santiago, Chile. Fans have expressed their frustration on social media, with some criticizing the frequency of last-minute cancellations while others defended the singer’s commitment to safety and quality. “I can understand one or two shows, but 6 is ridiculous!” one fan posted.
“Figure it out before or get a regular stage since it seems like that is the issue here.”
Shakira’s tour launched in South America this February and has faced numerous setbacks. The repeated cancellations have sparked a variety of reactions from her global fanbase. For now, fans are left hoping the remaining dates on her tour will proceed as planned.
