Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller “Sinners” debuted at the top of the domestic box office this Easter weekend, earning an impressive $45.6 million. The film, which stars Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twins Smoke and Stack, unseated the highly profitable “A Minecraft Movie,” which grossed $41.3 million in its third week of release.
“Sinners in its preview take is under that of genre comps 2022’s Nope ($6.4M Thursday night, $44.3M opening) and 2019’s Us ($7.4M, $71.1M).”
Mildly amusing choice of “genre comps” without further explanation. https://t.co/RoHBkcCgzo

“Sinners” marks the fifth collaboration between Coogler and Jordan, following their work on films like “Fruitvale Station” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” In the movie, Jordan’s characters return to their hometown in the Mississippi Delta after serving in World War I, only to find the area overrun by vicious vampires. Despite losing the top spot, “A Minecraft Movie” has been a major success, earning a total of $344.6 million to date and making it the most profitable film of the year so far.
