Taylor Lautner defends Selena Gomez from body shaming

Taylor Lautner has come to Selena Gomez’s defense amid ongoing body-shaming comments. The “Twilight” actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a post from influencer Alex Light, which highlighted the contradictory comments Gomez has received about her body at the 2024 and 2025 SAG Awards. “Selena was mocked last year at the SAG Awards for putting on weight and told to go on Ozempics.

At this year’s SAG Awards, she’s been slammed for losing weight and mocked for allegedly being on Ozempic,” Light wrote. “This isn’t just about Selena; it’s about the impossible standards placed on all women—in the public eye or not. No matter what we do, someone will have an opinion.”

Lautner, who has previously spoken about struggling with mental health due to public comments about his own body, also weighed in.

Lautner speaks against body shaming

“It’s a cruel world full of hate out there,” he wrote. “You can never please everyone, nor should you have to. In my experience, it doesn’t make the words less sting; it just refocuses you on what matters—and it sure isn’t your body’s shape, color, or appearance.”

The actor concluded his post with a reminder to “be a little bit nicer.”

Gomez, who publicly revealed her lupus diagnosis in 2015 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, has been candid about her struggle with weight fluctuation due to her health condition, medication, and other factors. This defense from Lautner highlights the ongoing issue of unrealistic body standards and the harmful effects of public scrutiny, especially for those in the limelight.

Lautner and Gomez remind us that body-shaming can have profound impacts on mental health, and their messages emphasize the importance of kindness and self-acceptance.
