The cast of the hit TV show “The Bear” has been spotted dining at various Chicago restaurants while filming in the city. Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmy, and Matty Matheson, who plays Fak, have both named Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf as one of their favorite spots. The stylish downtown steakhouse is known for its superb steaks and dimly lit ambiance.
Ayo Edebiri, who plays Syd, visited Ohh Wee It Is with fellow cast member Lionel Boyce. Edebiri described the soul food restaurant as having “some of the best food of my life.” The menu features decadent renditions of Southern comfort food, such as oxtails, pot roast, shrimp and grits, mac and cheese, and peach cobbler. While filming, Liza Colón-Zayas, who plays Tina, visited Ponce Restaurant, a family-owned spot in the Hermosa neighborhood that specializes in authentic Puerto Rican dishes.
Jeremy Allen White was also spotted at Birrieria Zaragoza, a casual restaurant in Archer Heights that is known for its stewed goat, designed to be scooped onto soft corn tortillas and dunked in rich consommé broth.
The Bear cast’s Chicago dining spots
Matty Matheson, who may play a front-of-house role on the show but is often found in the kitchen off-screen, frequently visits Tufano’s Vernon Park Tap while on location in Chicago.
The old-school restaurant is an essential spot in the city’s legendary Italian dining scene. Matheson recommends the grilled calamari and the sausage and peppers. The entire cast also visited Vito and Nick’s, an acclaimed South Side pizzeria with a cult following.
Many Chicagoans claim it’s home to the city’s best tavern-style pizza. The family-owned shop has been serving the Ashburn neighborhood for nearly a century. Other spots frequented by the cast include Doma, a sleek cafe with Croatian influences that gets a cameo in season three of “The Bear,” and Shaw’s Crab House, a long-standing seafood institution known for its fresh offerings and classic vibes.
From soul food and pizza to elegant steakhouses and cozy cafes, the cast of “The Bear” has certainly explored the full spectrum of Chicago’s culinary offerings during their time in the city.
