HBO has announced that the second season of “The Last of Us” will premiere on April 13. The season will consist of seven episodes and follow the events of the video game sequel, “The Last of Us: Part II.”

Season 2 occurs five years after the first season and features a hardened Joel and Ellie facing new threats, including more fungal zombie clickers. New cast members include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Catherine O’Hara will guest star in an undisclosed role, while Jeffrey Wright will reprise his role as Isaac, the leader of the Washington Liberation faction in Seattle. Craig Mazin, co-creator of the series, told Entertainment Weekly, “Each episode is like a meal. You can have a light dinner or go to a 12-course French restaurant.

Season 2 features new threats

Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the other co-creators, write and executive produce the show. Both have also directed episodes, which will continue in Season 2. The first season of “The Last of Us” was a major success, winning numerous Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and receiving five Primetime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.
With the release date confirmed, fans can look forward to another gripping and emotional narrative when “The Last of Us” Season 2 premieres on HBO on April 13, 2025.
